I like the idea of signing a top 6 winger for HAll..
Nyquist or Eberle . ( Hall kind of said .Get me a winger. and I will resign so look for that to happen .... Defense -think one of the 4 must go . Severson ,Greene , Vats ,Butcher ... Greene is only Defensive player in that group and he i s not physical and older. With Yt Smith coming and Possibly Davies . that adds another 2 non physical de men... NJD have been trying to add that element the last few years since Larsson was traded .but failed. Prout , Quincey , Gryba , Santini , Mueller Jacobs is that player but is still a year away. Larrson's 256 hits were 9th in the league last year. Devils d as led by Seversons 83 .

If Tyler Myers hits free agency could you see them putting an offer in?

What would it take to get one of the Predators defensemen and which one? That team needs a shake-up of some sort. If Hall isn't resigned by July 1st I would trade him for Subban straight up and then look to move Vatanen for some forward help.

If Hall does resign, can the Devils trade Vatanen and other pieces to the Preds for one of their defensemen? The Preds are going to have to pay Josi at least $9.5-10 mil. The Devils can trade Vatanen and the Preds can give him a contract around $5-6 million. The Preds will get a cheaper right-handed defenseman. What other pieces can the Devils offer?

Either the Devils resign him or he become deadline trade bait. He's too much of an asset to watch ride off into the sunset. I think which direction gets answered during the season based on Vat's play and how everyone else comes along.

The problem is everyone will look bad if we don't replace Nesreddine and his defensive system. Scott Stevens.

I think the answer will be yes, but the necessity will depend on how much our defense improves through rookies and free agency

Regarding that Predators defensemen question.... I'd go after Ekholm in a heart beat. The rest of them will be too costly. Not saying we wouldn't have to give back value for Ekholm but the price for Subban, Josi, and Ellis would be much higher. With that said, I'd offer Vats and one of our 3rd round pick for Ekholm. I have a bad feeling Vats will be prone to many more injuries in the future.

Green has one year left in his contract and will be the odd man out after next season; but they will obviously start the year with the captain penciled in. Think tradable asset to a contender ala Lovejoy.

Not Mojo & Marchand interesting like Boston... just it would be ironic. Especially if Hall signs as a free agent back in Edmonton. Never know....

It's one thing to have lost a trade, but it's a much harder thing to admit you lost the trade by trading him away for less. I don't think Larsson is going anywhere, though I still have a great amount of respect for the type of player he is.

Trades have been one of Shero's strong points, he has a lot of chips to work with and I am sure they will open the wallet. He still has to entice Hall into staying and is aware of the top 2 D man need. It is going to be awesome to see what he puts together!

Bored at work today and was looking back at some of the Nico/Nolan threads here from two years ago, and man were you UPSET when they drafted Nico over Nolan

I hope you're feeling a little better about it these days.

A lot of NHL pundits still think the Flyers drafted the better player and came out the winner in the Hischier/Nolan debate. I think they either have hate for the Devils (most of Hockeybuzz) or they're just high.

I think the only debatable players that could've been picked before Hischier are Heiskanen (who's a stud) and Pettersson. Pundits also have to remember that Hischier (and Patrick) started in the NHL right away and Heiskanen and Pettersson played another year overseas.

Tyler Myers makes his teammates worse, has terrible goals against numbers despite favorable zone starts, has giveaway numbers similar to John Moore and doesn’t generate enough offense to justify having him around. Better off running Vatanen, Severson, Carrick down the right side than spending money on Myers.
